This is the worst utility I have ever dealt with. I attempted to dispute a charge. They denied my claim, stating they have a recording of a call where they clearly explained the $150 charge that I consented to. I requested I be able to listen the recording, and they said they would not turn it over to me unless I served them with a subpoena. I asked why not just provide me the phone call and their response was 'it's policy.' In trying to make sense of the charge and their policies and procedures, I was constantly interrupted and talked over by NW Energy Agents. I had to request they stop interrupting me and give me the opportunity to explain the nature of my complaint. I felt like I was talking to a group of 2-year-olds. After speaking with two agents and one specialist, I must have heard a response similar to 'we state in our policies and procedures that's not our responsibility' a dozen times. I guess if you're a utility company, you can set forth policies and procedures, which allow you to treat people like garbage, and when they complain you can just refer them to the policies and procedures. They claimed they returned my call to discuss their decision. I told them I never got a call or voicemail. They said they didn't leave a message because my voicemail was not detailed enough in identifying myself. I'm sure there's good reason for this practice and a supporting explanation in their policies and procedures. If possible, avoid doing business with NW Energy.

An unfortunate horned lark blew the cut-out fuse on our domestic transformer with the sound of a shotgun discharge and complete loss of electrical power. Within 15 minutes of reporting the incident, Grant Harding showed up, quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it from the ground so he wouldn't need to drive his truck into the dry tall grass surrounding the pole. When I told Grant that I was a curious engineer, he graciously walked me through the entire process of repairing a blown cut-out. Grant is a great representative for NorthWestern Energy. He has a pleasant, thoughtful, competent manner, plus good humor, and a great skill set, especially performing a 30-ft remote repair using a long insulated pole from ground level. Really cool and impressive. Thanks Grant. Cheers. -- Ron Drake P.E., Helena,

I am deaf. And in being deaf these people rank right up there in being the most uncaring sorts I have ever met, let alone have to try and communicate with. Either in person, or via E-mail. I can not use a phone, no? OK- rant over
