'Extremely Helpful and Friendly'. I dropped in one weekend and took a look at what this store had to offer, very very progressive. I'm a local Greenfield student studying at GCC as an Civil/ Environmental Engineer. I have always wanted to stop by to take a better look at Solar Store. I was pretty impressed with what they had. These folks had plenty of solar panels ranging from small and portable to the professional, full sized hot water/ solar panels. They stock quality built products that are built for the long haul. What was really great was they have competitive pricing to match, even beating what is sold online. When browsing the interwebs I notice the bigger retail sites push shoddy 'dollar store' junk as a cheap solar solution. [S&H is what you're really paying for.]As a engineer geek, I have always gravitated towards problem solving and more efficient technologies. I aways liked teh idea of alternative energies but felt it was not a viable mainstream solution, due to its upfront cost. Upon listening to what the latest generation of green had to offer, I began to rethink this. I think everyone is able to afford to lower their power bills. Solar store is cool having a section dedicated to L.E.D. light bulbs, also very reasonably priced.Online I've seen these type of bulbs going for ~$60 for a 40-65 watt incandescent equivalent. On the shelves they had bulbs going for 1/5 the online prices starting with $12 (not even Depot Homes had ones this strong), these were wicked powerful. They had a demo with these modern bulbs, I was amazed at how bright they were. Even more impressive is just how little power they draw. Even CF bulbs with a 1/4 of 'normal' bulbs these L.E.D's were 3-5 times more efficient than their CF counterparts. I applaude them for offering this to teh everyday consumer. (Remember how much the CF's were when they first hit the market?) Just like CF's, as time passes I'm sure LED's will keep coming down.Other than the solar and lighting selection, they have about a dozen yellow 5 gallon containers filled BIO-Fuel and clean heating for us that live in New England. I really see this store going places in the coming years as people seek other methods to satisfy the ever growing energy needs. I was compelled to write this review as I like to share with everyone how great this place really is. If anyone else has been there they know how wonderful this store really is, and not just for Greenfield but for all of Franklin County. oh and one last thing, they got this friendly dog that always wants to play frisbee. Lucky for the dog the 'Energy Park' is right down the street... Keep it up Solar Store! =D ~Them bikes are pretty Awesome too~
