Two weeks ago on a Thursday evening, as a heat wave in the high 90's arrived to San Diego, we turned our A/C on for the first time this Spring. Suddenly, we found ourselves sitting in the dark with no power. The main circuit breaker was tripped. Coincidentally,our electrician was scheduled to meet with us the following Monday to discuss a service panel upgrade so we decided to wait through the weekend. It was an uncomfortable weekend with no air conditioning as the temps hit 100 degrees.On Monday afternoon, he determined that the problem was in the A/C compressor and referred us to Hans Energy Systems. The electrician used H.E.S. for his own residential and rental properties. He was impressed with their high quality and reasonable pricing.We called and spoke to Josh, the owner. He agreed to stop by on Tuesday. He arrived around 8am. Within minutes, he was able to determine that the compressor had slowly leaked refrigerant, causing the A/C to run excessively, the wire connections had melted from overheating, causing a short circuit. Our furnace was 25 years old, and the duct work was installed when the house was built in 1972.Josh explained that replacing the compressor and coil -- due to the ban on the older Freon, both would need to be replaced -- without replacing the furnace and ducts, while feasible, is not recommended. Today's HVAC systems are high efficiency and just replacing the compressor and coil would not make sense with today's newer technology. Josh was able to provide us with an estimate to replace the whole system immediately, and if approved, would begin work the following day. We approved.Josh, his brother Jason and their employee Jared, worked for the rest of the week and the following Monday and Tuesday. They arrived each day a few minutes earlier than scheduled and worked hard each day. We both work from home full time, and they were respectful of our presence and need to focus on our jobs. They cleaned up any debris at the end of each day and removed all of the old parts from the premises. They are friendly and professional.
