This is by far the worst electric company weve ever had, and weve lived in several states, and two different areas in Florida. I understand that Duke energy is available in nearby areas, so I would advise anyone moving to this area to buy properties serviced by Duke and not Glades. The complaints that weve witnessed first-hand are numerous. Weve had a very high number of outages, to the point that its a joke in the local community. Once an outage occurs, it takes quite a while to be restored. Their customer service is awful, and there are mandatory fees each month, so even if you use no electricity at all, you will pay a minimum of $75 each month just because youre are in their co-op. Their systems go down frequently, and dont always reconcile payments correctly. This has happened to us on several occasions, and when we call customer service to straighten it out, even providing proof from receipts, they are rude and act as if weve not paid our bill and are trying to get away with something. Ive never had such a negative impression of a utility company - it should be a non-issue, why should a utility company cause anyone stress? Just sign up for Glades service and youll see for yourself. I hope that one of the other Florida electric companies somehow takes over this area, but if not, I console myself knowing that we plan to move in the next couple years, and we **absolutely** will be researching the utility providers in our new area before the purchase - something I would have never even thought of until I had to deal with Glades.

I was going to move to okeechobee, I had to open an account with them. We bought some land there but never had power brought out to our property. We decided not to build on our property and never had power brought over to our property. They hit my credit report with a $75 charge. All we did was open an account with them, but never used their services. Glad we didnt move to okeechobee if this is the way the power company chooses to do business.
