Ive been coming to SPI regularly since the 1960s. Its very upsetting that my daughter and son-in-law, who were staying at Bahia Mar, were given a Citation at 8:36 am for setting up their canopy on the beach behind the Bahia Mar resort before 9:00 am. The fine amount is a minimum of $270! They were unaware of the rule that we later saw is posted on a small sign at the hotels entrance to the beach. When it was pointed out to them, they immediately took it down with apology. We, as tourists, provide SPI with its primary source of income. So, why resort to such punitive measures?? We spent thousands of dollars on our trip this past week at restaurants, sand castle building lessons, the turtle rescue facility, groceries, wave runners, gas, and more. Any recommendations as to how to deal with this?

Our condo had old furniture smells/looks, no tv in most rooms, cable didnt work, balcony view was a garbage disposal and peoples backyards, security was too strict, they seemed to like drama and talk back to us when we made complaints! Some of my family was not able to come celebrate my daughters 15 bday because only 8 guests were allowed, and couldnt even come in the gate for at least 1 minute so they drove 3 hours for nothing! we were accused of giving our wristbands to others and threatened to be kicked of the property! This will be our first and last time ever staying at Bahia Mar!! If I could, I would give it 0 stars!!

Great location. Always felt safe with security. Rooms good, but kitchen not as stocked as it should be.
