My group of about 20 hikers headed to new Salem a couple of weeks ago. Lovely place, great hiking and biking trails. Only issue we ran into was an old and slippery bridge. Very close to Springfield. Also very close to a small eatery

Tranquil site with great books in the gift shop. A museum of a place that encourages meditation on Illinois frontier history and the personal history of an American hero.

We were among a very few visiting and the visitors center and more was closed due to Corona 19 but we enjoyed our visit very much. Took a picnic lunch.

This place was a real diamond in the rough for our two week vacation. So serene. Historical. Peaceful walk. If you're anywhere near this area, check it out. You won't be disappointed. I suppose it could be a little boring for some young children, but that's to be expected with any museum type atmosphere.

Absolutely beautiful!! No one was there due to lockdown so the trails were pretty empty except for a few dog walkers. My toddler ended up meeting the horses, and an employee let him help feed them carrots. Already planning our next trip
